DATA INTEGRITY, INSTRUMENTATION & SCOPE

This document defines the exact measurement protocols, sample distributions, inclusion rules, and statistical definitions governing our 484-site contractor website benchmark study.

study parameters: Sample Size: n = 484 Websites • Sampling Period: Q1–Q3 2026 • Confidentiality: Aggregated Anonymized Telemetry • Scope: US Metros (Texas, Midwest, Southeast)
Cohort Demographics

1. Sample Selection & Inclusion Criteria

The 484 evaluated websites were gathered across active home service contractor markets in the United States, with a concentration in Texas, Illinois, Georgia, and Tennessee. Sampling was limited to established commercial and residential service contractors with an active business presence.

Industry Vertical Sample Size (n) Share (%) Primary Service Focus
Roofing & Storm Restoration 149 30.8% Residential Reroof, Commercial Flat Roof, Hail Claims
HVAC & Mechanical Systems 115 23.8% AC Replacement, Furnace Repair, Heat Pump Installs
General Contracting & Remodeling 120 24.8% Kitchen/Bath Remodel, Additions, Framing
Specialty Trade Services 100 20.6% Plumbing, Solar Energy, Electrical, Masonry
Total Benchmark Cohort 484 100.0% Audited Across 4 Primary Trade Verticals
Technical Architecture

2. Measurement Instrumentation & Subsystems

All measurements were captured via automated headless diagnostic runners combined with server HTTP response inspection. Four discrete technical subsystems were deployed:

Subsystem A: Edge Network & TTFB

Measured using cURL HTTP timing probes from US-Central (Dallas/Chicago) nodes. Captured Time-To-First-Byte (TTFB), DNS lookup latency, TLS negotiation overhead, and edge cache status (HIT vs MISS/DYNAMIC).

Subsystem B: DOM & Schema Parser

Extracted HTML DOM trees to detect JSON-LD script blocks, Microdata, and RDFa tags. Validated conformity against Schema.org LocalBusiness, RoofingContractor, and HVACBusiness graphs.

Subsystem C: Mobile Dialer Auditor

Parsed anchor tags matching href="tel:*" versus raw unlinked phone number regex strings inside mobile headers, fixed bottom navbars, and hero sections.

Subsystem D: CMS & Script Profiler

Identified underlying content management systems (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Custom PHP/Next.js) and isolated third-party render-blocking script weights (Elementor, Divi, tag managers, chatbot iframes).

Metric Definitions

3. Core Metric Definitions & Boundaries

  • 1. Schema Entity Absence (54.8% Failure Rate)

Defined as the complete absence of a valid Schema.org LocalBusiness, HomeAndConstructionBusiness, or vertical subtype in the document head or body.

  • 2. Unclickable Phone Dialer (14.0% Median Failure)

Defined as the presence of a phone number displayed visually as plaintext text, image, or background CSS without an enclosing <a href="tel:+1..."> interactive markup.

  • 3. CMS Script Bloat / LCP Risk (18.6% Severe Rate)

Websites shipping >1.5 MB of unminified JavaScript bundles or >1,800 DOM nodes before user interaction, resulting in mobile rendering delays.

Explicit Exclusions

4. What Was Not Measured (Boundaries & Limitations)

To maintain rigorous scientific accuracy, we explicitly distinguish between deterministic on-page measurements and probabilistic external variables:

  • CrUX Field Data Percentiles: Chrome User Experience Report metrics vary based on local cellular carrier speed distributions; our audit evaluates server response and DOM architecture.
  • Individual Client Revenue / CRM Close Rates: Financial conversion rates cited in individual case studies represent verified client production data, distinct from the automated 484-site crawl benchmark.
  • Confidential Identity Disclosure: In accordance with our client privacy commitments, specific competitor domain URLs and business identities are anonymized and aggregated into vertical benchmarks.
